Summer Vacation and a Good Book. It's a perfect combination!

back to school banner

As the lazy days of summer are coming to a close, there is great excitement in the school and media center. We are celebrating 40 years as a lighthouse to all those seeking a Christ centered Chiristian Education in St. Petersburg this year. An updated and relevant library is a key component in supporting our school's mission and vision of supporting the academic needs and spiritual needs of each student and teacher at SPCS. Once school is back in session in August, the media center will be open daily to the students whether it is their assigned library day or a free time in their class schedule. The library stafflooks forward to assisting the students on a regular basis. It is our desire to help each child choose new books more often than the once a week during their scheduled classes. Click on the book review and podcast links on the left side of this page to see some of the things going on in the library. In addition, the WSPC news team will be working hard to produce our WSPC daily show and create new pieces to be shown each morning and during library classes that visit the library each day. Check back often to see what new things are going on throughout our library and the programs we support to promote reading throughout the school.

The Media Center is open each school day from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Students are encouraged to visit the library daily to return books and look for new books to read for their enjoyment. Students in Kindergarten are able to check out one book at a time. First Grade through Third Grade students are able to check out 3 books at a time. Students in fourth Grade can check out 4 books and students in Fifth Grade and Middle School can check out 5 books at a time. If you have any questions about the Media Center program or website, please e-mail Mr. McLeod by clicking on the Contact Mr. McLeod tab in the navigation bar.

Elementary School Fiction Book Review!

Masterpiece

This month's Book Review of the Month is Masterpiece by Eileen Broach. Booklist is the provider of this month's review for the SPCS Media Center Website. Check out what Booklist had to say about this book and look for it in the Media Center.

James lives an invisible existence in a grand apartment on the Upper East Side. His mother, busy with her new husband and baby and her climb up the Manhattan social ladder, has little time for him. By contrast, Marvin, a beetle whose overprotective, extended family resides behind James’ mother’s kitchen, gets more attention than he wants. The two find friendship when James’ artist father gives him a pen-and-ink set, and Marvin discovers his talent for “drawing,” crafting delicate, museum-quality miniatures with his legs. When Marvin and James find themselves embroiled in a plot to steal a Dürer drawing from the Metropolitan Museum, they must find creative ways to communicate to foil the thieves and protect the masterpiece. Murphy’s own pen-and-ink spot art reflects the text’s sweet insouciance. With suspense, art history, complex family relationships (human and arthropod), and a resonant friendship, this enjoyable outing will satisfy the reserved and adventurous alike.

Thanks Booklist and check back soon for the next highlighted book to read.
